MUSIC REVIEW - JAZMINE SULLIVAN: PRICE TAGS (HEAUX TALES)

With only 11 days into the new year, we have a lo of quality music dropping.

2021 is already seeing a new project from the Griselda family, so it would only make sense for something from the other side of the same coin to bless our ears. Now, we have to admit that we’ve never been a Jazmine Sullivan fan….until now that is, and that happens sometimes! Ears change, sounds change and they draw people in at different times through different motions. Some songs spark emotions that you never knew were even inside of you, or just make you fall in love with an artist on album number 6 …either way, I think this is a perfect time to indulge in some Jazmine. What a voice, what a flow…a true breath of fresh air.

We always knew how talented she was, and we were always aware of her works with the likes of Missy Elliot and Salaam Remi….what we weren’t aware of was how versatile she really is. Jazmine presents so much style and grace through this conceptual project. The standout track for us is “Pricetags” which has us crushing on Jazmine through her soulful flow on the hook, raw rap-like lyrics, but with an angelic voice that you just want to hear more of as the song outros.

Have a listen to the track that features Anderson .Paak below to vibe with us (Bump it loud).

Raw and rough. Beauty and beast. Sexy and Soulful. She plays both throughout the album. She has clearly transitioned and has had no issues with adapting with the times while still paving her own sound through her music and style. To us, she’s getting younger and newer through her artistry, look, voice and subject matter, as if she was a new artist all over again. With Key Wane and Cardiak being the most recognizable producers on the project (to us), we had to look Jairus "JMO" Mozee up to get familiar with the person behind the smooth/futuristic vibe of this track! We are begging Jazmine to create a music video to this one due to it’s “hit” potential….in fact, it’s an anthem.

Jazmine is apparently planning on releasing a follow-up to Heaux Tales Sooner than later, but for now, she leaves us with something to bump, dance and make love to. Another standout track on the project is “On It” which features Ari Lennox, so indulge in that one as well.

We hope to maybe have Jazmine on the podcast one day in the future.

Cheers to true artistry!
